Working in oils and cold wax, I build up layers into which I press textures, reveal marks, incise lines to create a semi-abstract painting with a sense of history.
In “Shifting Encounters” I consider how change is constant along shorelines, where natural forces cause geological elements to fracture and re-settle, debris and small pebbles to be held in cracks and crevices, and traces are left from relentless waves and variable weather, as our landscape shifts and reshapes.
In a time of environmental uncertainty and rapid change, my work offers a space to slow down and pay close attention to the textures, details and transformations shaping the coastline and how these link to our own experiences of change and internal landscapes, and our relationship with our living planet.
