I came across this view from the roof terrace of Hôtel Dame des Arts in Paris and just loved it. I have always been fascinated by urban landscabs and rooftop views and there is no where better for seeing these than Paris.
The painting looks out across a dense sweep of roofs under a winter sky, looking towards Sacré-Cœur on the hill of Montmartre in the distance. A single lit window, warm against the cold grey of the surrounding rooftops, gives the painting its title.
